Remote Cardiac Monitor Sparks the Dawn of Wearable-Free Health Tracking

Remote Cardiac Monitor Sparks the Dawn of Wearable-Free Health Tracking

Advanced TeleSensors Deploys World’s First Over-The-Air Cardi/o® Vitals Monitor

Advanced TeleSensors (ATS) delivered the first Over-The Air (OTA) vitals monitors to Helios Equine Rehabilitation Center in Lincolnton, GA, marking a new age of wearable-free physiology trackers. The OTA wireless capture marks a significant disruption in the traditional approach to animal welfare and veterinary care, and forms the framework for next generation health care in the home.

The Cardi/o® ATX-2410 Heart Monitor is the first time heart rate variability (HRV) is obtained without the use of an electrocardiogram (ECG), without a wearable heart monitor or staffing. While heart rate is traditionally the primary measure to identify colic in horses, HRV is more reliable than heart rate in predicting colic and survivability, according to a study published in the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), US National Library of Medicine (NLM), and National Institutes of Health (NIH). The study findings conclude, “Reduced HRV was strongly associated with ischemic gastrointestinal disease and nonsurvival. HRV analysis is a noninvasive technique that may provide diagnostic and prognostic information pertinent to the management of postoperative horses with severe gastrointestinal disease.”

Ed David, General Manager of the state-of-the-art equine rehab facility, is pleased with what he saw: “The system set-up appeared stable and suitable for monitoring a stalled horse in a 12’ x 12’ stall that is standing or laying, near the sensor or away from the sensor.” Including HRV, the innovation streams heart rate, respiratory rate and motion metrics, designed to alleviate veterinary workloads associated with routine wellness checks while providing enhanced continuous care.

Cardi/o® ATX-2410 lays the foundation for Advanced TeleSensors’ deployment of wearable-free consumer health monitors for in-home caregiving starting 2019. As in-home care increasingly displaces institutional care, OTA cardiac monitoring is the holy grail which emphasizes the value of living as much as healthcare management.
